Introduction
Here at Planhat, we have a culture of continuous improvement, and we update Planhat frequently.
The aim of this article series is not to detail every single release, but more to give you a high-level overview of some of the key customer-facing updates - functionality changes you'll see in the UI.
Our Developers also often make improvements to elements in the "backend" - infrastructure/architecture - to enhance performance (e.g. make things load extra quickly, or be even more robust/reliable). We are not going to list these updates here.
January 2023
Calculated Metrics - "null" option
π Details
For each of your Calculated Metrics, you can now use a toggle switch to choose whether to treat empty/missed values as null
The default state is that Calculated Metrics never output null; if null should technically be the result (e.g. if all inputs are null), then the Calculated Metric will return 0
However, if this toggle switch is enabled, the Calculated Metric will output null where appropriate
For more information, see here
π Benefits
This is useful in cases where a missing value being classed as zero would skew results
For example, outputting null means it won't have an impact where it's used elsewhere in Planhat, such as in Health Scores
In Pages, time-series (trend) chart widgets will no longer drop to 0 in the case of null values or missing data; there will simply be no bar/line section
Slideouts autosave
π Details
Edit "slideouts" now autosave, and so require no "Update" button click
π Benefits
This saves you time/clicks and ensures your changes are saved
February 2023
Launch of the Automation Station
π Details
This includes an extensive library of Automation Templates, making it really easy for you to create tailored Automations using a word-based UI
Simple-to-use search/filtering
Easily organise your Automations via Grouped View
Triggers (previous more limited type of automation) have been deprecated
Note: this functionality later moved to the Operations Module
π Benefits
Automation Templates combine the ease of Triggers with the flexibility of custom Automations
You can still create fully custom Automations as before
Now it's simple for you to configure a wide range of Automations, to automatically carry out actions in response to changes in data. Data-driven action is a key part of modern Customer Success, and is vital for maximum impact and efficiency
The Automation Station also makes it easier for you to organise and manage your library of Automations
Automations - "Use a connection" and "Scheduled"
π Details
"Use a connection" and "Scheduled" options in Automations can now be accessed by Planhat users - previously, they were only available to Planhat staff
Each of these is (separately) controlled by permissions on the tenant and the role level - ask your CSM or TAM if you need help with this
Note that "Use a connection" later became "Use an integration" in a subsequent update
π Benefits
Scheduling Automations enables you to trigger Automations on a regular time interval rather than in response to changes in data
"Use a connection" (later: "Use an integration") is a way to integrate with third-party tools
Enhancement to Pendo integration - "Days to Sync"
π Details
We have increased the historical syncing capabilities of Pendo v2 up to 1 year (365 days)
This is not the default, as it may not be required. Please reach out to your TAM if you would like to extend the historical sync period in your tenant beyond the default of 90 days
For more information, see here
π Benefits
If you have older usage data in Pendo that you'd like to sync into Planhat, now you can do so. This means you can analyse trends going back further
Calculated Metrics - "totalSum" and referring to Calculated Metrics on other models
π Details
totalSum
This is a new "part component" operator for Calculated Metrics
It sums (adds up) all values, over all time, of your chosen metric
Example usage:
{"type": "totalSum", "prop": "activities.create user"}
Related Calculated Metrics in Calculated Metrics
Within Company Calculated Metrics, you can now refer to Calculated Metrics from other models (End User, Asset or Project); previously, you could only refer to Custom Metrics on other models, or Calculated Metrics on the same model
For further detail, see here
π Benefits
"totalSum" means you can easily calculate a full cumulative sum (all values for all previous days) of your selected data
Related Calculated Metrics in Calculated Metrics enables you to do "count conditional" calculations, such as "count the number of End Users who logged in over the past 14 days"
March 2023
Enhancements to email engagement tracking
π Details
"Email opened", "Email clicked" and "Email replied" are now available as part of email engagement tracking
Previously, this worked via a "Click rate" score out of 100
π Benefits
These new options make it easier to filter email conversations based on outcomes, for better analysis and insight
Amplitude integration launched
π Details
We are now one of Amplitude's Event Streaming Destination Partners
This new integration makes it very easy to stream events to Planhat as User Activities on Company, End User, Asset or Project models
Check out this article to see how easy it is to get connected and sync data
π Benefits
With this integration, you can send a continuous, real-time stream of Amplitude events to Planhat as User Activities
You can analyse this product usage data within Planhat, including in the context of other data types; you can then take data-driven action (such as automatically sending emails in response to a drop in usage, or as End Users progress through a series of milestones)
Enhancements to Pendo integration - editing and passive/active
π Details
You can now edit Pendo mappings
You can also control whether Pendo metrics are mapped as "passive" or "active"
π Benefits
This gives you more flexibility when configuring the Pendo integration
Whether you select "passive" affects how End Users are classified as active within Planhat - for further details, see here
Advanced Matrix
π Details
A standard "Matrix Chart" widget in Pages is a heatmap grid display of properties split across 2 categories
"Advanced Matrix" is now available - this enables you to build heatmaps, up to 50 x 50 cells, with custom text fields in both dimensions, calculating on and sorting across an unlimited number of properties
It's controlled via a permission that can be enabled at the tenant and role levels
π Benefits
A typical use case for using and plotting custom text fields like this (as opposed to list fields) is when you have a very high number of products, frequently changing
With the Advanced Matrix, you can analyse product consumption, product targeting and product ARR contribution, etc.
