Data Objects in Planhat to help you handle complex use cases of additional attributes for your customers

Often times companies fit into the traditional CS model with clear distinctions between plans and features for their customers. However, sometimes your business might be split in a way that is more significant and complex where our Success Units are not enough, but it also does not merit separate child accounts.

For these situations we now have two Objects available, Assets and Projects, each targeting two slightly different use cases.

πŸš€ Quick tip: If you are a Salesforce user, you have probably heard of or are using Assets and Projects, and we are happy to let you know that our native Salesforce integration supports these objects, in a bi-directional sync.

If you have not had an experience with Salesforce, read on below to learn more about how to use these data objects to handle some more complex use cases of attributes your customers might have.

Assets

Assets are ideal when the your business is split across long lasting entities or you are creating a SaaS division from a legacy business and need to account for all customers in Planhat.

Some examples are:

  • You sell different products to the same Customer and need to know which products have been sold and see metrics / fields related to them.

  • You sell to different departments at the same Customer and need to know how each department is using the product independently from one another

Projects

Projects are initiatives that have a clear start and end date, and typically have a shorter shelf life than your regular license period. When Projects are live they are important and need to be managed with different data points, however when completed they can be "archived".

Some examples are:

  • Managing online conferences - the conference has metrics related (e.g.,how many sign ups) and metrics while its ongoing (current viewers), but once complete the metrics can be saved and the conference itself no longer matters.

  • Software to run competitions - each of your customers will run a number of competitions, maybe in parallel, for shorter periods if time.

  • SaaS for construction companies centered around the building projects (assuming each given project only belongs to a single customer)

  • Running multiple course paths for a single customer

πŸš€ Quick Tip: You can create Assets and Projects in Planhat natively, via Salesforce integration, via API or via manual import.

πŸ“£ Pro Tip: You can create Assets and Projects specific calculated metrics as well as import or send Custom Metrics directly to either of the objects.

πŸ“Œ Important to note: Assets and Projects are not part of every package, please reach out to your CSM to learn more.
